We are a network of parents from some of the least and most funded schools in England, that want the government to listen to our concerns about the funding situation facing state schools across the country.
Annabel lives in Wokingham with her two primary aged children. She came alive to school funding issues when a teacher friend told her that Wokingham was among the lowest funded areas in England. In shock, she was motivated to start her own petition and gained local media coverage. In October 2016, the Wokingham Borough Schools Fair Funding Campaign was founded to ensure that Wokingham children receive the best education and opportunities to set them up for life. The group campaigns for funding for sufficient teachers, resources and a broad spectrum of subject choices. Annabel believes this is what every parent wants and that our children are our future.
Self-employed graphic designer and mum of a 5 year old, determined to defend our schools and our children’s education.
Self-employed mum of two daughters, shocked into action on hearing that the local secondary school was increasing class sizes because of funding constraints. Passionate about the value of state education and its life changing power, prepared to fight for it.
Annabel, Kelly and Jo met through social media at the end of 2016 and the national parent-led Fair Funding for All Schools campaign was born.
Our campaign is calling on the government to:
• Increase investment in all schools by protecting per-pupil funding in real terms for the life of this Parliament
• Provide the additional funding needed to implement the National Funding Formula that increases funding for maintained schools and academies in comparatively poorly funded areas of England without cutting funding per pupil for schools in any other part of the country, so that no school loses out.
By harnessing parent voices – through a national petition and setting up local parent groups – we will bring pressure to bear in Westminster through an effective political lobbying and media strategy.
We will help to foster a large scale response to the government consultation on the National Funding Formula seeking to modify the proposals to reduce the negative impact on our schools.
We will support parents to set up local campaign groups, meetings and actions. And we will work with teachers, school leaders, councillors and MPs to deliver a collective voice for fair funding for all schools.
